JAMIE FOR ICON EL PAÍS – ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Jamie recently sat down with ICON EL PAÍS to discuss The Fall, Fifty Shades of Grey and his time spent as a teen with friends Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Garfield. Although the article was originally printed in Spanish, EJD has spent some time translating the article into proper English. Read below and enjoy!

It took one decade for the ex model from Belfast to be acknowledged as an actor. Now, Jamie Dornan fights to get rid of Grey’s shadow. Thanks to roles like the psychopath in “The Fall” or the heroic soldier from “The Siege of Jadotville” (the Netflix Original that will be released on Netflix October 7th,) it looks like he won’t need to wait another decade this time. He talked to us in an exclusive interview for ICON.

There are Twitter accounts dedicated to celebrating the shapes of his arms. Advertising images where this ex-model appeared cuddled up with Kate Moss, or smeared with oil along with Eva Mendes, form part of the popular imagery of the past decade. Media as prestigious as The New York Times nicknamed him ‘The Golden Torso’ and a trailer for the second installment of the Fifty Shades series – where he plays the most mysterious icon of our age: a millionaire fond of sadomasochistic sex – sent millions of fans into a frenzy counting down the days until the premiere (February 10, 2017). Jamie Dornan, however, is the one that seems to care the least. Northern Ireland’s 34 year old clearly wants to offer something more than a godlike physique. He could have spent his days signing a never ending stream of advertising contracts while continuing to be shown half naked but instead decided to pursue acting. After facing some criticism, Dornan landed the role in the UK television series ‘The Fall’, where he plays a psychopath from his native city of Belfast. The Fall has just released its third season, and it’s in that television series that Dornan proves his depth as an actor. His latest film, a stark contrast to his role as Christian Grey, also showcases Dornan’s talent. ‘The Siege of Jadotville,’ which debuts on Netflix October 7, is inspired by a true story. In 1961, during the war of Katanga, a secessionist province of Congo, an Irish battalion of 150 soldiers sent by the United Nations was attacked by some 3000 men of the local army assisted by French and Belgian mercenaries. There were five days of fierce fighting, but this battle was excluded from the official history of Ireland. “I had no idea about this battle. It was kept secret for years for several reasons, which I find embarrassing since it shows Irish heroics on a large scale” He explains in his County Down accent, after a photo shoot in which he had been amicable and sociable, spontaneous and somewhat foul-mouthed.

Why did you get into the film business?
I don’t have the proper attitude for working in an office. From a young age, I knew that I was not that kind of person. I lack the patience to sit in front of a computer. I had no idea what I would do, but I think that all those who work in film feel compelled at a young age. I started theatre at the age of 13; I wanted to be a different person and express myself accordingly than my friends on the rugby team. It was clear I wanted to be an actor. I felt comfortable in a world that allowed me to be the person people weren’t expecting me to be.

JAMIE DORNAN AND CILLIAN MURPHY DISCUSS ANTHROPOID ON RTE ONE’S ‘THE LATE LATE SHOW’

14164042_564513090423398_1095896697_o

TWO IRISH STUDS graced RTE’s Late Late Show on Friday evening in the season opener of the show and our eyeballs were throbbing. Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy sat down to chat with host Ryan Tubridy about current and upcoming projects, family life, being in the public eye and even had a few jokes along the way.

The pair have been on a nation wide press tour together and have developed a friendship that is clearly evident to the public and fans. The pair often joke or boast about each other while throwing in some inside jokes that even we feel we’re in on. Cillian gloats about co-star Jamie throughout the interview, citing that he would “…binge watch the Fall with his wife,” speaking highly of the character of Paul Spector. Ryan even went as far as to ask Jamie a burning question we were all dying to know the truth about; did he really stalk a woman to prepare for his role as Spector in The Fall? Dornan’s response “…I observed someone on a tube once,” citing that he didn’t ‘stalk’ a women per se, rather experimented with the idea.

Dornan went on to discuss Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, citing that production wrapped a mere four weeks ago after both films were filmed back to back. But what came to our surprise the most was news about The Fall. As Jamie had mentioned earlier today on an interview with BBC Radio, it was reiterated that The Fall would be having its third series premier at towards the end of September, a date much sooner than the fans collectively anticipated! There is still no official premier date as of yet but at least we now have a general idea. EXCITING!

The pair continued to laugh and giggle and share jokes with each other for the duration of the program, taking a minute to talk about life in the limelight and how they deal with that on a personal level. “It’s not that hard,” Dornan says, explaining that it’s a frame of mind, something you remove yourself from. He spoke beautifully and breifly about his wife, being the private man that he is, and we were happy to know that Amelia is doing well.

But can we talk about how good these two men have looked consistently throughout these past few days? The pair have rocked a tasteful and crisp collection of clothing through this weeks press tour. Cillian all dapper in dark’s while Jamie has bestowed his signature blue colour on us; in clean cut blazers and suits tailored even better than Christian Grey’s, a simple white tee or dress shirt and jeans that accentuate his beautiful behind, Jamie has dressed to impress all week long sending both fans and paparazzi into hysteria. With his beard in full bloom, our favourite Irishman is definitely taking some much needed time to get back to him, his family and the things (and people) he loves. The show ended with news of The Fall’s September premier date and enthusiastic applause, accompanied by a few hoots and hollers – and rightly so.

But then again, you can always watch it for yourself because it’s avilable on their app! Click here for details and submerge yourself into the statuesque glory that is our favourite Irishman.

MORE MR. DORNAN

Jamie is participating in a new interview hosted by The Times Magazine in the UK, or rather has already. The magazine announced today via Twitter that it would be publishing an interview “…with the one and only Jamie Dornan” tomorrow, September 3rd. No other details have emerged aside from their public declaration accompanied by this promotional photo. Nevertheless, Dornan doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, or as expected for that matter. And although we hate to be selfish, you know you love it.

Visit The Times Magazine tomorrow for the exclusive print interview.

JAMIE DORNAN ATTENDS AUDI DUBLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

A BUSY TWO DAYS

14191583_563500740524633_1739143020_o

Jamie Dornan and his fan base have had quite a persevering two days! Dornan has been on a lengthy promotional tour for his newest film Anthropoid, which hit theaters on August 12th. With a slight week-and-a-half-ish break in between his first round of promotion, which took place in the USA, Jamie was back at ‘er again this week promoting the film in the UK. But he wasn’t alone; co-star Cillian Murphy, director Sean Ellis and other cast members where there to mutually support each other, and the film.

'Anthropoid' UK premiere, 083016

On Tuesday while attending the official UK Premier, Jamie took a night off from being a dad and sported his lovely wife Amelia on his arm for the premier.

DOESN’T AMELIA LOOK RAVISHING?! She donned a simple multicoloured polka-dotted dress while Jamie went super-cas as well, sporting a blazer and plain white tee. The couple looked stunning on the red carpet together as paps snapped their pictures prior to the movie showing.

After the premier it was time for Jamie and Amelia to head back to their hotel to catch up on some much needed sleep as tomorrow would prove to be just as exciting. The couple are staying at the Merrion Hotel in Dublin while Dornan’s press tour continues.

Now onto day two (today) where Jamie has two stops to make. He recorded the Late Late Show (RTE) where there were very few photos released and only by fans. The show is set to air Jamie’s appearance on Friday September 2nd, 2016. Dornan was swept off to the Audi Dublin International Film Festival for another screening of Anthropoid. Accompanied by fellow cast, yet sans Amelia, Dornan was yet again super suave in nothing more than a button down blazer and plain white dress shirt, top buttons undone, of course. With a brief shining moment on the red carpet to answer questions from reporters, and a quick photo op with the rest of the cast, it was time for Dornan to step inside once more for what was another fantastic viewing of Anthropoid.

Many fans were finally able to see the film for the first time, and what better way to do so than with Jamie?!

image-501

But today wasn’t all about Anthropoid. Like the creepy serial killer he is, The Fall and BBC Two managed to squeeze some new Spector in right in the middle of the Anthropoid frenzy. This new still from Series 3 of The Fall, featuring our fave serial killer, also hit the internet today, with much surprise to the fans.

Spector ranks at the top of Jamie’s roles most loved by fans and even though it’s entirely creepy to totally fan-girl over a serial killer, we don’t care – and we’re glad that he was snuck in during such a crazy time. Although there’s still no premier date for when the third series will air, a Q&A with Jamie and co-star Gillian Anderson is set to take place in the UK on September 7th.

You can find all of yesterday and today’s pictures from Jamie’s Anthropoid appearances including some new BTS portraits of the film, fan pictures from fans all around the world (thank you for so generously sharing them) and this new Spector still in the gallery.

You can catch up on all of Jamie’s Anthropoid Press Junkets, Jamie’s full appearance on ‘The One Show’ as well as a multitude of new clips and sneak peeks of Jamie’s next upcoming film, ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ on our YouTube channel.

EJD would like to thank all the fans and our fellow friends for contributing to Jamie’s ever growing fan base over the past two days. Your pictures, videos and encounters have helped so much, being so far away. We’re forever grateful.
