Jamie Dornan. Model, musician, actor. A man with many talents at just the age of 33. Born to James and Lorna Dornan on May 1st, 1982, Jamie was raised in Holywod, County Down, Northern Ireland and grew up alongside two older sisters, Leisa and Jessica. Jamie had a love for acting from an early age, much like his father (who became an obstetrician) and participated in both rugby and drama at Methodist College in Belfast.
Jamie dropped out of the University to move to London to pursue acting, however, success first came to him as a model in 2003. Jamie was featured in several print ads and commercials but was most noticeable for his Dior and Calvin Klein campaign for which The New York Times dubbed him “The Golden Torso.”
The role of Axel von Fersen in the 2006 version of Marie Antoinette was Jamie’s first acting role and was followed by parts in a few short films including Nice to Meet You and X Returns. Eventually, Jamie stepped onto the international stage when he landed the role of Sheriff Graham/The Huntsman on ABC’s hugely popular hit, Once Upon a Time in 2011. Jamie was on the show for seven episodes and two flashback episodes, before being killed by the Evil Queen. Jamie fans alike have recently started sporting a #WeWantJamieDornanForOUAT100th hashtag, hoping that for Once’s 100th episodes, Jamie will reprise his role in a flashback.
Shortly, after OUAT, Dornan was cast in the role of Paul Spector, the grisly serial killer on the BBC Drama, The Fall. Originally, Jamie had auditioned to play the role of one of the police detectives but the show’s writer Allan Cubitt stumbled upon Jamie’s audition tape and it became imminent that Jamie should be cast as the lead. Playing the role of Paul Spector has since won Jamie the 2014 Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA) for Best Lead Actor as well as the Rising Star Award. He was also nominated for Best Lead Actor in 2014 by the British Film Awards and once again by IFTA in 2015. Jamie has played Paul Spector for two seasons and is set to reprise the roll of Spector for Season 3.
Playing New York City businessman Colin Montgomery in the Dutch Film, Flying Home gave Jamie some experience for his next and most famous role as Christian Grey; the enigmatic, troubled, successful and incredibly handsome CEO in E.L. James’ book Fifty Shades of Grey. Fifty Shades would soon bring Jamie more recognition then he could ever imagine. It wasn’t long before Jamie was doing several interviews to promote the film, even before it was finished filming. He became an overnight success on social media gathering followers and fans from all parts of the globe. Everyone wanted to know what he was doing, where he was going and what he was eating. We were, and still are, intrigued with the man who would portray Christian Grey, one of the most talked about parts in Hollywood and on the internet.
Fifty Shades of Grey opening weekend earned a staggering $81.6 million, a record breaker for any film released in the month of February, much due to the charm and chemistry of both lead actors. He is set to reprise the role of Christian Grey for two more films. FIlming is rumoured to begin at the end of February 2016. Fifty Shades Darker’s current release date is February 10th, 2017 while Fifty Shades Freed is set for February 9th, 2018.
Shortly before he was cast as Christian Grey, Jamie was cast as Dr. Allan Pascal in the 9th Life of Louie Drax movie adaption to Liz Jensen’s best selling novel. He has also recently finished filming the Netflix Drama Jadotville as well as another war drama, Anthropoid in which he plays an assassin.
Jamie married actress and songstress Amelia Warner on April 27th, 2013. They have a daughter who was born in Canada in November 2013.
Jamie has always been a charitable person, especially after his mother died of pancreatic cancer when he was only 16. As a result, Dornan is a great supporter of various charities and has helped in promoting Circular Soccer which was recently created by his father, James Dornan.
